InsectiGen Founders

InsectiGen was founded in 2003 by Dr. Clifton Baile and Dr. Michael Adang.  Our technology focuses on improving the performance of Bt toxins against high value plant pests and mosquito-vectored human disease. Dr. Michael Adang and Dr. Donald Dean, our first Board member, have played pivotal roles in the discovery and advancement of Bt technologies. In 1995 Dr. Adang demonstrated a method of designing a synthetic Bt gene to be more highly expressed in plants and was awarded a patent for his breakthrough invention (U.S. Patent 5,380,831). Dr. Adang’s invention is considered by many to be the seminal event that launched the multi-billion dollar GM crop industry.

Dr. Donald Dean is a distinguished world authority on the use of Bt strategies against deadly mosquito-vectored diseases such as West Nile Virus, Malaria, and Yellow Fever. The Dean Lab has developed patented technology that enables the rational design of novel Bt toxins that exhibit enhanced performance and extended target range against harmful mosquitoes. These technologies deliver improved price performance and a competitive advantage in the mosquito control market.

Our founders are considered the best and brightest in their field and their supporting staffs have a successful history of delivering results as promised. The collective achievements of our scientific organization include:

  • Over two dozen patents dealing with Bt technology

  • Rationally designed novel proteins with significant commercial value

  • Development of valuable high throughput bioassay technology

  • Demonstrated extraordinary problem solving ability

  • Success in meeting project deadlines
