InsectiGen's Products
Our first product,
BtBooster™ (BtB), is a patented protein that
when combined with certain Bt toxins produces
remarkable enhancement of insecticidal potency
and extension of the toxins’ target range. BtB
represents a technological breakthrough with
significant economic value. BtB not only
enhances the performance and value of current Bt
offerings, but also provides a strategy for
reducing the risk of insect resistance to these
traits. The product can be implemented in the
field via transgenic seed, solid (brick/dunk),
granular or sprayable applications.
The BtBooster® technology is
expected to:
 |
Enhance the speed of
controlling the larvae. |
 |
Increase efficacy
against older larvae. |
 |
Control insect species
that are not susceptible to current Bt
products. |
 |
Remain viable and
effective on the treated plants for
extended period. |
 |
Assure minimum risk of
building resistance. Therefore the
BtBooster®-based products
|
 |
Can be applied
throughout the season with no
restrictions. |
Since the BtBooster® has
minimum risk of building insect resistance; it
can be used frequently and as needed in rotation
programs with chemical insecticides. This
approach will reduce the time needed for certain
insects to build resistance against the chemical
insecticides. These benefits will allow the
BtBooster® technology to capture significant
share of the fruit and nut insecticides market.
The grower will have the option of using
BtBooster® as a stand alone product, replacing a
number of chemical insecticide applications,
especially those with restrictions related to:
-
Livestock grazing not
allowed in treated areas.
-
Long period between final
treatment and harvest.
-
Reentry intervals (time
between application and entering the field)
that are inconvenient to growers’ day-to-day
operations
-
The number of applications
or rates per crop or season.
-
Toxicity to beneficial
insects and /or bees
-
Cause the outbreaks of
secondary pests
Growers who have relied
strictly on synthetic insecticides have learned
some costly lessons over the years. Insects can
quickly build resistance to these compounds
forcing growers into expensive and often time
consuming and frustrating rotations between
inconsistent substitutes. A reliable technology
such as BtBooster® will be welcomed by growers.
Asana, Guthion, Lannete, Ambush and Pounce are
examples of chemical insecticides that have lost
their effectiveness against many insects that
attack fruits and nuts.
